Navarathri Golu Competition

In celebration of Navarathri Sri Vakrathunda Vinayagar Temple will be holding a Golu competition.

A Golu is a traditional festive display of dolls and figurines which typically narrate Goddess-related themes and stories during the multi-day Navarathri festival. Each displayed item in a golu is sometimes called Golu doll (Bommai) or equivalent. These are typically made by rural artisans from clay and wooden materials then brightly painted. They are generally arranged in an odd number of tiers (padis) to tell a story. Goddess-related themes are common, along with mythological events, developments such as anticipated wedding within the family and of friends and aspects of day-to-day lives are put on display.

Whilst we are unable to partake in the typical festivities of Navarathri, the Temple would like to encourage families and youth members to participate in the competition and celebrate the Goddess Shakthi.
